Nikolay Rizhankov

oil painting

I paint to uphold the eternal beauty of classical fine art; whether I am painting a simple still life or an elaborate portrait, I put all my heart into preserving the techniques of the old masters. I use classical Russian, Dutch, and Flemish-style techniques to depict the breathtaking beauty of the natural world. I mainly work with oil paints and pastels, putting technique above all so that the natural beauty of my subject comes across in its purest form. I also have a good feeling for other styles of painting, which allows me to work on restorations. Nikolay moved to America in 2013. Nikolay was awarded 1st Place in Professional Oil Painting’ in the 52nd Annual Fall Art Festival at Glenwood Springs. The Annual Lone Tree Art Expo presented him with the Commissioner’s Choice award, and he was also honored with a Wildlife Appreciation Award and another award for his miniatures. He received the Dick Blick Award at the Boulder Art Association’s Annual Juried Art Exhibition and was also awarded at the Colorado Artist’s Guild 3rd Annual Fine Art Invitational Exhibition, held at the Alpine Gallery in Denver Art District. Nikolay received an award for Artistic Achievement at the 32nd Annual National Fine Art and Photography Show provided by the Louisville Art Association, CO. In March of 2017, Nikolay’s artwork was featured in UGallery’s advertisement in the American Art Collector magazine. Classical painting style and traditional techniques prevail in Nikolay’s works, which are painted on high-quality linen canvas. In the tradition of the old masters, the linen is masterfully stretched and covered by a special primer. Not only do the paintings created on linen canvas stay true to the test of time, but they also have a smoother and more robust surface. This approach gives Nikolay’s paintings a lively energy, along with warmth and mystery.
