“I want to paint the way the bird sings”, Claude Monet. This is a favorite quote that expresses the joy of painting and the spontaneity and creativity I seek to express in my art. I feel very fortunate to live in Colorado with its beautiful scenery and spectacular skies. I work in oil, pastel, mixed media, and on silk, enjoying the bright, vivid colors and textures these mediums provide. Working in different mediums keeps my art fresh and exciting.

I create one of a kind paintings and ceramics at the intersection of culture, science and math. As a self-taught artist, I attempt to channel my energy and passion for Indian culture in my artworks. I give permanence to some of the traditional and everyday ephemeral art forms I grew up with like henna body art, kolams and rangolis in the form of textured mandala paintings.

I am a commission artist with 34 years of experience, specializing in creating paintings in either oils or pastels that capture the essence of individuals and pets as well as landscapes. It brings me immense joy to craft a piece that resonates with my clients. Alongside my commission work, I have dedicated the last 17 years to teaching art to teens and adults, fostering their creativity and watching them evolve as artists. Witnessing their growth and passion inspires me as much as my own artistic journey.

From my studio, I see only nature. This is home, my center, and it informs my art tremendously. Being in nature is vital for my work as an artist and as a psychotherapist. While I paint both in my studio and en plein air (outside in the open air), I am lately consumed with painting information that comes from my “Mind’s Eye.” These paintings may appear to be surreal, like drifting memories, but they are actually based on themes and symbols occurring in my day-to-day life.

I started college as a fine arts major. However, I changed direction because at that time, in my mind, I felt I couldn’t draw a person, landscape, still life, etc. Fast forward, decades later when I discovered the medium and magic of alcohol inks.Painting with alcohol inks brings unexpected results.

I explore the relationship between energy and form, light and color, movement and stillness in my paintings. I’m inspired by the beauty of nature, the cycles of creation, and the mystery of consciousness. My work weaves visual, emotional, narrative, and archetypal elements to invite a deep sense of connection with self, body, the natural world, and the cosmos.

Creativity is at the core of my being and has been navigating its way to the surface since I could hold my first set of crayons. I’m a self-described maker of all things that interest me. My artwork explores connections between technology and nature through sculpting and painting. The combination of my B.F.A. in Fine Arts and B.S. in Electrical Engineering influence my designs which integrate abstraction with realism in concept and aesthetics.

I have fun painting imaginary planets and galaxies in an abstract way using watercolors and a variety of mixed media. I also enjoy making ATCs, collages, and art/junk journals. A life-long passion, and former profession but now retired, is designing jewelry using beads and cabochons.

I’m an realist artist painting from life. My paintings express aesthetic moments. Some are like a soft breeze; solitary and light-feeling. Others are symphonic; rich in connection and performance. All are part of something bigger than themselves. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the living with the inanimate and the je ne sais quoi, that indescribable something, found in expressions of life. Strong drawing skills are the heart of my work. They shape the ways I use light and shadow, value, form, edges, texture, and color. And when I’ve communicated what I “saw”, that synesthesia of an instant, I sign my name.

All these elements can be seen throughout the artist’s shapeshifting eclectic images. A self taught artist who derives inspiration from a wide range of life experiences, Joy, as she is called, has been involved in the expressive arts since 1960. Her first exhibition opened at the Taos Library in New Mexico.

As an artist, my primary experience of the world is visual. My gift is the ability to communicate this experience through art. My art is derived from my participation in and observation of the dance of life around me. I have traveled extensively and often find inspiration from these experiences . I enjoy painting landscapes and explorations of the figure in motion. Whatever the subject, it is my intention to reach beyond the simple reflection of a physical object, to communicate to the viewer on a deeper level.

I paint with oil and cold wax. I love the tactile nature of the wax and the vibrant colors of oil paint; mixing the two creates a thick, rich, medium that reminds me of finger painting as a child.

My art emerges from an affinity for metal craft and metal sculpture in particular. In 2023, I reignited this passion, channeling it into a playground for creative self-expression and exploration. Using traditional metalworking techniques—cutting, bending, and joining—I transform metal into abstract forms that challenge the divide between structure and chaos, inviting viewers to explore the sublime depths of the subconscious.

After 36 years as an engineer and over 30 patents later I am finally an artist. Engineering was a “safe” career choice. People always say something like, “Both left and right brain…” but engineering has room for a lot of creativity that goes beyond stereotypes (patents for example).

I hold degrees in both Fine Art and Architecture, and draw on the two traditions equally. This creates a unique process and a unique product for each piece of art. While no two of my works share the exact same technique, they do share a common thread that runs through them all. This thread is also my inspiration: to connect myself and my viewer to an integrated world; where seeming opposites (like good and bad) exist simultaneously in all things.

When I asked about a career in biology, my 8th grade teacher said I’d have to learn the Latin names for grasshoppers and study the digestive systems of every animal – which pretty much ruined the whole biology thing. As a college freshman, I wandered by a lecture on design one day and changed my major the next day to art and design. I studied “order out of chaos” and discovered “obsession from too much order”. I saw how “less is more” can be “less is a bore”. I learned the rules, how to use them and how to break them. There were manifestos for color, form, everything centered and not, the parts and the sum of parts, the vertical and horizontal, windows and no windows.

My approach to painting is based in change.I start with a place, an experience, a color, an emotion. Sometimes the inspiration comes from a photograph, sometimes what I see in front of me, sometimes just what’s in my head right then, something internal.

Linda truly believes that life is beautiful and sacred and she celebrates that in her artwork through her use of color, light and form. When she was young, she would mix her crayon colors to make her favorite combinations that weren’t in the box. “My favorite color was sky blue pink! It had a bit of blue, pink and just a touch of yellow.”

As a contemporary impressionist painter, I love to paint with vibrant color palettes and thickly textured impasto, often using only a palette knife. I build paintings through multiple layers to create depth and a sense of movement across the canvas. If you look closely, you’ll find subtle variances of color within each tiny portion of a painting.

Many years ago, I got a BFA. I didn't 'do' art for a long time. Boulder's welcoming art community recently drew me back. I LOVE it!
I primarily do watercolor, but also like to do collage and pencil sketches. I am still getting comfortable with calling myself an 'artist.' Regardless, I'm hopeful that you enjoy my 'pretty good art.'

I respond to impressions of the world around me through my figurative, animal, and landscape watercolor painting. I aim for fresh, impressionistic, but realistic images.

Ever since I remember myself I always wanted to be a painter. Yet, my artistic journey has been full of turns, twists and surprises. I grew up in Eastern Europe, in a family of engineers who shared a deep appreciation for art. My parents collected art books and brought me to museums and gallery openings, even when I protested.

I work primarily in oil paint to explore the threshold between observation and memory. Through myth-inspired figures and quiet natural forms, I examine how light transforms stillness into meaning. Each image—whether a solitary Bluebonnet at dusk or a symbolic portrait—seeks to capture the moment where the visible world becomes inward reflection. The interplay of layered oils, color, and atmosphere is deliberate, evoking reverence for transience and resilience. I aim to create spaces of contemplation, where myth, nature, and human emotion converge in silence.

Using pastel painting as my primary art form and painting both in the studio and “en plein air”, I aim to capture the inherent beauty I see in my subject and the feelings it evokes in me.
