Art Prep
No frames – Just your magnificent creations on paper or ATC cards. Art may be matted, but not required or preferred. We have magnetic hangers for hanging art on paper. We also have “putty”, Command Strips and nails if needed. Heavier/larger matted work may need to be wired on back. Please bring supplies if in doubt (wire might be attached with strong glue such as E6000 or other brand).

Size DOES Matter – Recommended smaller work (2.5 x 3.5” to approx 9×12”). Larger sizes may be accepted depending on contributing art. If it fits, it’s in. If not, then it’s out. Bring several pieces and let’s see what works!

Submission Limit – Depending on entries, we may allow more or less with each contributing artist. Approximate # of works per artist: ATC artists might display 12 – 20 cards. Inktober artists, 2-6 or more drawings depending on size. Artists with both ATC & Inktober art – perhaps 12 ATCs and 2 -4 Inktobers, again this depends on size and number of contributors.

Prepare Your Work – We recommend that artists apply an archival protective surface such as Golden Archival Varnish or  Krylon Gallery Series UV Archival Varnish or other brands. Most come in a choice of satin, semi-gloss or gloss.

NOTE: The BAA does not promote any specific brand. These are just examples. This is also optional – however, recommended.

Label the back of each piece – Name & title. ATCs have a traditional way of labeling each work as noted in the ATC section below.

Create & bring your own tags. Please limit tags size to 2×3” OR a no larger than 8.5×11” paper listing all or numerous artworks in order of display. Tag or paper should include title, artist, sale price (if for sale), contact info &/or QR code for purchasing art, Inktober date & prompt (if Inktober piece).

Single pages may include an artist statement &/or brief bio if it fits on the page.

(100% of any sale of your work goes to you. Zero commission!)

NOTE: The studio does not have regular open hours. Art is viewed & may be sold at BAA events such as Friday work times, monthly meetings, In-Person Artist Roundtable and any other event that may arise. Potential event: Trading ATC event of any ATCs (not necessarily those in the show).

Insurance & Loss: Although the BAA will take the greatest care for your art, we do not insure artwork. It is strongly recommended & the responsibility of the artist to properly insure their work against any damage or loss, financial or otherwise, resulting from copyright, trademark, theft, breakage, fire, flood or any other cause or Act of God to Artist’s work(s) during the term of this agreement.

What are Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)?

ATCs are small works of art, 2.5″ x 3.5″ in size, created to be traded among artists or sold to collectors. The concept originated in Zürich in 1997 and quickly grew into a global creative movement. These miniature canvases encourage artistic freedom, experimentation, and community sharing across all styles, mediums and skill levels. ATCs are usually created on heavier paper such as cardstock or watercolor paper but all sorts of papers and other materials may be used as long as they are the correct size and can slide into clear sleeves made for storing & collecting ATCs.

NOTE: Although artists may use any medium or card colors for regular ATCs, for the INKED exhibit, art is limited to black & white renderings (white ink/markers/paint on a black background or black ink/markers/paint on a white background).

What goes on the back of ATCs?

  • ATC
  • Artist Name
  • Date
  • Title of Art
  • # of Edition or Series (1/8, 2/8… if applies)
  • Your Website, Email or social media (Optional)
  • Copyright “@2025” (Optional)

What is Inktober?

Inktober happens every October, each year. In September, a list of prompts is provided from inktober.com (This year’s list is copied & pasted below). The idea is to draw something inspired by each day’s prompt. Drawings can be literal or symbolic, realistic or abstract, simple or complex. You can start sketching ideas now or get started with finished pieces to start sharing on social media October 1st (note hashtags below).

For example, #1 is Mustache (See list at end of this document). You might draw a literal mustache, just a mustache. Or you might draw a realistic or abstract or silly or fantasy face of someone or something with a mustache. It can be animal, person or any inanimate object – as long as there’s a mustache featured in your drawing!

Then, if you do social media, post it on October 1st, with #inktober and/or #inktober2025 – also remember to tag us @boulderartassociation!

Then continue with posting the 2nd prompt drawing on October 2nd and so on through the 31st. (Or as mentioned, whichever prompts you want, can or are inspired to do – but try to post on or near the assigned date.)

As mentioned in the rules below, you don’t have to draw something every day for every prompt. Do what you can; do as inspired and as your schedule allows. You also do not have to post your drawings – just do it for your own satisfaction and personal growth as an artist.

And of course, do it for our INKED exhibit!

Please read the following copy & paste from Inktober.com  (BAA Comments in RED)

Inktober rules:

1) (Use the list of 2025 prompts for each day during the month of October.) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).
2) Post it* (Save your favorite/s for the BAA Inked show!

3) Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2024 (Remember to also tag @boulderartassociation)
4) Repeat (Optional: Join us Fridays, 2:15- 4:15 at the Open Studio Worktime for inspiration & connection with other Inktober and Artist Trading Card artists! 2810 Wilderness, Suite C DIRECTIONS)

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. Whatever you decide, just be consistent with it. Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.

That’s it! Now go make something beautiful.

*Post it on any social media account you want or just post it on your refrigerator. The point is to share your art with someone. :)

And here it is – the 2025 Prompt List!
