This series focuses on the many ways that we struggle to define and manifest the authentic self. The images allow the viewer to be a participant in defining self and creating a narrative. Some of the images explore how struggles with mental health, societal norms and pressures, and isolation can manifest outwardly.

When exploring isolation, there are physical features, especially in landscapes, that are desolate. There can be grace, as well as expansiveness and tranquility, that comes with pause and reflection. I want to express this beauty, while also acknowledging the void that can come from isolation.

I have always been drawn to storytelling as a means of exploring and illuminating the human condition. My artistic life began with writing fiction, but I found myself moving toward poetry as I strove to distill narratives to their bare and essential essence.  It seems that photography was the next logical step in that process. I use composite photography to create meaning and visual narratives, and I have a particular fondness for the strange and stark beauty of landscapes.
